Input Fields Safe from Browser Extensions

Browser extensions have full access to page DOM and can read any standard input value. SmartField's closed Shadow DOM returns null for shadowRoot. Extensions cannot find, read, or modify the encrypted input.

The Attack

When browser extensions targets a standard HTML input, the attacker can read the plaintext value directly from the DOM:

The Protection

With SmartField, the same attack returns encrypted data:

The attacker gets 600+ characters of encrypted gibberish. Useless without the server's RSA-2048 private key.
